This post is written for the Real Diaper Week Carnival with the theme "Real Simple. Real Diapers." We aim to educate and advocate the use of cloth diapers in the Philippines. Please scroll below to read the other carnival posts about cloth diaper styles, how to's or must haves.
We spend the Holidays out of town and I was really excited to spend the time-off work with my family, since its our first time to bring along baby Ced with us - he is 7 months old and is cloth diapered 24/7. I'm really pleased that the resort we were staying in is just a few minute drive from Calaruega church. That would mean I could reflect for the Holy week while the kids will still be able to enjoy the long break. I packed our stuff the night before the trip, I am determined not to bring any Disposable diaper and disposable wipes for my baby. Instead, I bring along 4 diaper covers and 8 inserts ( I am using the pocket type) since its just an overnight stay. I packed them in my diaper bag along with some zip-locks, my home-made cloth wipes and diaper-rash ointment, just in case. Upon our arrival at the resort, I immediately changed his nappies. Its a 4-hour drive just to reach the resort because of the heavy traffic that Holy Thursday, and I'm glad there were no leaks! I also brought along a waterproof bag for his dirty nappies and placed it near the comfort room in our cabin. The kids begged for the pool the next morning and older sister Cherelle is pleading me to bring baby Ced with her in the pool. Although I didn't bring any swimwear for us I knew I could use the cloth diaper as baby's instant swimming trunks!

I believe the chlorine from the pool didn't get to affect the cloth diapers texture cause I'm still able to use them nicely after.

I stuffed all the wet diapers in the the waterproof bag along with the dirty ones and...
packed up for home after the swim. We had lunch just before reaching SLEX because daddy got hungry, and it is while eating that baby Ced pooped. It was an unpleasant one because he hadn't pooped in our whole stay in the resort! I immediately bring him to the comfort room and washed him. I put the soiled nappy and wipes in the zip-lock in our diaper bag and we were back in the table just before everybody finished up.

I'm glad we survived the trip using cloth nappies. I have to admit I was hesitant to use cloth diapers at first because I thought it was more inconvenient than using disposable diapers especially in a trip like this. But eventually, using cloth diapers pushed me to be more creative and resourceful in packing baby essentials (which I'm glad of). Before using cloth diapers I never knew a lock&lock could be used as a storage for my cloth wet wipes, and I haven't discover that waterproof shopping bags could be an alternative to a laundry bag, and most of all, I haven't known that zip-locks could be so handy for baby's soiled diapers. I'm glad I made a switch from disposables to cloth.
